FENTON -- With a newfound home-court advantage, the Fenton Tigers beat Flushing in four sets to win the Class A Girls Volleyball Regional Title, setting a school-record for wins in the process with 46.

After Fenton took a 2-0 lead in the match, the Raiders won the third set and led for much of the fourth. However, the Tigers rallied and senior Kennedy Piwowarczyk scored the winning point with an ace.

Fenton junior Bobbie Eastman said the Tigers have always been resilient.

“I haven’t doubted our team for one minute,” she said. “It’s been like this all season. Tonight, we pulled through.”

The match was originally scheduled to be played at Linden High School, a neutral site. A power outage, caused by a squirrel tripping a main fuse, forced the game to be moved to Fenton High School.

Head coach Linda Rusaw joked that her Tigers were grateful for the squirrel, but said she is glad her team is continuing their record-breaking run.

“We’ve just had a fabulous run,” Rusaw said. “My team never stops, never gives up.”

The Tigers will play in the state quarterfinals at Davison High School on November 13 against Northville.
