FLINT -- Dozens of people gathered at University Square Park in Flint to pray for a 3-year-old boy who police say was beaten by his mother's boyfriend.

Robert Martin III is accused of beating the child on November 1.

The 3-year-old remains in the hospital.

Meanwhile concerned community members lit candles Sunday and collected stuffed animals that are now on display as a public statement in the fight against child abuse.

"Babies are so innocent. children are so innocent. they learn what we teach them. if we are abusing our children and hurting them it will carry on a cycle that we don't want to carry on or it could potential carrying on that cycle until their is death" says Ryan Loree of the Bridge Church.

The stuffed animal tribute will remain to raise awareness.
