MIDDLEVILLE (AP) -- A man discovered mounds of feces and dead dogs after buying a foreclosed home in western Michigan.

And the previous owner? Our sister station WOOD-TV reports that she is Marcie Tepper, a member of the Barry County animal control advisory board. She says she euthanized the dogs because she was embarrassed that she couldn't find new homes for them.

Tepper tells WOOD-TV that she couldn't pay her bills because she spent too much money on the animals.

Authorities are investigating. The home's new owner, Kurt Wierenga, says the smell is overwhelming. He says he bought the home near Middleville last April but didn't get in until October, about 30 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.
