NEW YORK (AP) -- A second straight day of talks between the NHL and the players' association is over after five hours of meetings with federal mediators.

Neither side is saying whether progress was made Thursday or if more meetings have been scheduled to try to end the 75-day lockout that is threatening the entire season.

After agreeing to help from mediators on Monday, the league and the union returned to the bargaining table on Wednesday for their first face-to-face talks in a week. Those discussions, which included time for each side to meet separately with the mediators, lasted for about six hours.

They got back together Thursday morning until late afternoon before breaking off.

The NHL said it would issue a statement.

The lockout has forced the cancellation of games through Dec. 14, the New Year's Day Winter Classic, and the All-Star weekend in January.
