GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP -- General Motors is offering a lump sum buyout to hourly workers at the Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center who choose to retire or leave voluntarily.  The plant is slated to close by July 2013, after the company announced the cost-cutting measure last week.

A pipefitter at the Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center tells NBC25 that workers met with company officials Tuesday and were offered the buyout.

He said skilled and unskilled workers with at least 30 years are eligible to take the buyout payment.

A GM spokesman could not confirm the amount of the lump sum.

343 workers currently at the Grand Blanc Weld Tool Center will be reassigned to other plants in Michigan and Ohio this spring.
