ALLENDALE, MICH. -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at Grand Valley State University, 78-62.  The Cardinas fall to 7-8 overall on the season and 5-7 in the GLIAC, while Grand Valley improves to 14-3 on the season and 11-2 in conference play.

The Cardinals and Lakers exchanged baskets over the first ten minutes of action and Saginaw Valley trailed by two (17-15) after a Mike Schaaf (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) layup with 8:19 left in the half.

The Lakers went on to close out the half on a 20-8 run, with SVSU's lone highlight being a buzzer beater from half court by senior Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS).  Webb finished the night with a team-high 22 points on the night.

Saginaw Valley entered the locker room trailing Grand Valley by a score of 37-23.  For the first half the Cardinals connected on 9-of-22 (41 percent) shot attempts, while the Lakers hit on 15-of-30 (50 percent) from the floor.  Grand Valley was also 5-of-5 from behind the arc, while Saginaw Valley only managed to shoot 2-of-6.

Meijer "Player of the Game" Damon Bozeman (Detroit, Mich./Madison Heights HS) would try and give the Cardinals a spark in the second half, scoring 13 of his career-high 16 points.

A pair of free throws by Vincent Adams (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic HS) sparked a 9-0 Cardinal run that helped SVSU shave the GVSU lead to 64-53 with 2:17 to play. Unfortunately, Saginaw Valley was unable to close the gap any further as the Lakers went on to the 78-62 victory.

SVSU finished the game 20-of-54 (37 percent) from the floor, while Grand Valley shot 19-of-36 from the floor (52.8 percent).

The Cardinals will return to the friendly confines of James E. O'Neill Arena on Saturday (Jan. 26) then they host Ferris State University starting at 5:00 PM.
