Accident left one dead, two injured

INGERSOLL TOWNSHIP -- A two vehicle crash in Ingersoll Township early Sunday morning left one dead and sent two others to the hospital.

The Mindland Country Sheriff's department said that 27-year-old Philip Lapinski crossed the centerline with his 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup truck while traveling westbound on Freeland Road.

Lapinski's vehicle then crossed into the path of a 2008 Lincoln Navigator head east driven by William Schwannecke, 84.

Mr. Schwannecke and his wife, Madgalene Schwannecke, 73, were taken to the Mid-Michigan Medical Center for treatment.

Lapinski was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are currently conducting tests to detirmine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
