ANN ARBOR (AP) -- Volunteers are needed to help collect water samples and local stream measurements in southeast Michigan.

The Huron River Watershed Council is holding an introduction and training at 1 p.m. Saturday at its offices in Ann Arbor. No prior experience is required.

Volunteers have collected water quality data for 12 years. They work in teams biweekly throughout the summer. Activities take an hour or two to complete.

The Watershed Council says data collected helps evaluate projects designed to reduce algae growth and bacteria problems in lakes and streams throughout the watershed.
