CORUNNA (AP) -- Soldiers from the 144th Military Police Company of the Michigan Army National Guard will be given a send-off as they prepare for deployment to Afghanistan.

Relatives and friends will gather Sunday afternoon in the Corunna High School gymnasium for the ceremony. Corunna is about 65 miles northwest of Detroit.

The soldiers will receive about 30 days of mobilization training at Fort Bliss, Texas, before departing for Afghanistan.

Officials say more than 700 Michigan National Guard soldiers and airmen are deployed across the globe.
