SAGINAW -- April 11, 2012 was Draymond Green day in the city of Saginaw.
The Mayor bestowed that honor on the All-American basketball player Wednesday at an assembly at his alma mater, Saginaw High School.
Green accepted the honor as well as the one the school gave him: They will retire his High jersey during the next basketball season.
But the MSU senior's speech to the students was not about all he's accomplished, it was more about how he got to where he is.
Green said he's gotten there through hard work, and staying disciplined, and not succumbing to the "distractions."
He said he's trying to set an example, and hopefully, he gets through to at least one kid.
"With the environment our kids are growing up in, that myself grew up in, I think it's time for a change," Draymond Green said Wednesday. "Coach Dawkins used to always tell us, If I can change one kid's life, then I did my job. So, if I can change one kid's life, and maybe he'll change someone else's, it will be well worth it."
After Green graduates from MSU in MAY, he said he will head to Chicago to train for the NBA draft.
