Spirit fall to Storm

SAGINAW -- The Saginaw Spirit took on the Guelph Storm on Saturday night falling 8 - 5.

 

Both Western Conference teams came out strong in the first, scoring two goals early. The first goal was scored by the Storm's, and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Matt Finn from Jason Dickinson and Hunter Garlent. The Spirit's first goal of the game was scored by Eric Locke assisted by Steven Strong and Justin Kea, however the Storm scored again with less than 30 seconds left in the period, on a tally by Zach Mitchell from Tampa Bay prospect, Tanner Richard and Winnipeg prospect, Scott Kosmachuk. The period ended Guelph 2 - Saginaw 1.

 

The Storm came out strong in the second, scoring their first goal of the period less than two minutes in on the power play off the stick of Tanner Richard assisted by New York Islanders prospect, Andrey Pedan and Hunter Garlent. Shortly after, the Storm scored their second goal from Hunter Garlent, assisted by Jason Dickinson. The Spirit fired back, with two more goals, the first from Chicago Blackhawks prospect, Garret Ross, assisted by Eric Locke and Captain and the Florida Panthers prospect, Vince Trocheck. The Spirit's second goal of the period was scored by Eric Locke assisted by goaltender Jake Paterson. From there, the Storm quickly followed up with two more goals, the first from Cody McNaughton assisted by Robert Fabbri and Ben Harpur. The Storm's next goal was scored with less than 20 second left in the period by Matt Finn assisted by Hunter Garlent and Brock McGinn. The period ended Guelph 6 - Saginaw 3.

 

The third period opened up with a Spirit goal from Captain Vince Trocheck assisted by Eric Locke and Justin Kea. The Storm fired back with two more goals, the first from Jason Dickinson assisted by Brock McGinn and Matt Finn, and the second by Scott Kosmachuk from Andrey Pedan and Robert Fabbri, both on the power play. The Spirit came back and scored another goal with less than two minutes left, by Sam Povorozniouk, with assists coming from Nick Moutrey and Brandon Prophet. The game ended Guelph 8 - Saginaw 5, shots on goal were Saginaw 47 - Guelph 40.
