Josh Wallberg replaces Scott Thurlow
DAVISON -- Davison High School teacher and coach Josh Wallberg has been named as the district's new athletic director. He will replace Scott Thurlow, who is leaving the district in June.
"Josh has spent a lot of time working in our athletic program as a teacher, coach and even when he was a student at Davison High School," said Superintendent Clay Perkins. "He knows Davison. He knows our programs. I'm confident he has the vision and integrity to lead our athletic department."
A Michigan State University graduate, Josh has taught chemistry, algebra and computer science during his nine-year teaching career at Davison High School. He has also coached JV football, JV basketball and baseball, and has served as a game supervisor for many sporting events and tournaments.
"Josh has proven himself as a strong and highly respected educator in Davison," said Assistant Superintendent Eric Lieske. "I have complete confidence that he will step into the role as athletic director and bring the same qualities and high level of standards to our athletic program."
Josh said he very excited about his new role, which becomes effective July 1.
"Being a Davison kid and a Davison teacher, this opportunity is something I've always wanted," Josh said. "I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge of being the athletic director and helping Davison move forward and achieve in athletics what we've done in academics."
Josh said one of his first tasks will be to meet with all the coaches.
"We will plan together as a team to move forward," he said.
Josh is married to Elizabeth, who is principal for Oak Tree Elementary in Goodrich. They have two children, Aubrey Elisabeth, 3, and Gus Donovan, 12 weeks.
