COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- University of Michigan men's basketball coach John Beilein has been selected to serve as one of six court coaches for USA Basketball's U19 World Championship and World University Games team trials, held June 16-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"I am pleased and honored to be selected to assist with USA Basketball this summer," said Beilein. "I really look forward to this experience with great anticipation. The opportunity to contribute to USA Basketball, work with our game's finest coaches while teaching and coaching our nation's top players is a privilege."

As a court coach, Beilein will assist in conducting drills, practices and scrimmages during the tryout period but will not travel to either the U19 World Championship or the World University Games. Beilein will be joined by Mike Anderson of Missouri, Johnny Estelle of Navarro College, Mark Few of Gonzaga, Alan Magnani of Iowa Wesleyan College and Herb Sendek of Arizona State as court coaches working with the approximately 40 athletes vying for spots on the USA U19 World Championship and World University Games teams.

The FIBA U19 World Championships will be held July 2-12 in Auckland, New Zealand. The U.S. team will be coached by Jamie Dixon of Pittsburgh, while Chris Lowery of Southern Illinois and Matt Painter of Purdue will serve as assistant coaches. The World University Games will also be July 2-12 in Belgrade, Serbia, and will be headed up by Bo Ryan of Wisconsin.

Beilein recently completed his 31st season as a collegiate head coach and his second at Michigan. He led the Wolverines to a 21-14 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, U-M's first since 1998. Beilein currently ranks 19th among active Division I head coaches with 507 career victories. He was recently named as the chairman of the NCAA's new Division I Men's Basketball Ethics Coalition. This will be Beilein's first coaching assignment with USA Basketball.
