Stimac wins open division title
BURTON -- The second annual Genesee County Amateur Golf Championship named three new champions this weekend at IMA Brookwood Golf Club in Burton.
In the 54-hole Open division (open to any age), Joey Stimac took first place with a score of 219. Nick Carey and Nick Coriasso tied for second place with a score of 224 and Billy Wichert took fourth place honors with a score of 228.
In the 54-Hole Senior division, Rich Burke took first place with a score of 233. This was Burke’s second Genesee County Amateur win in two years. Lee Glidden took second place with a 234. Steve Presser and Russ Cassady tied for third place with a 235.
In the 36-hole Super Senior division, Larry Hogard took first place with a 146. Forest Benaway walked away with second place with a 152 and Wes Bond took third place honors with a 153.
“This tournament offered area golfers a first class event” said Sherlynn Everly, Executive Director of IMA Brookwood Golf & Banquet Center. “Chris Allard, our grounds superintendent and his crew did a fabulous job getting the golf course ready for this event and our programs committee headed by Jack Brown did a great job assisting Head Golf Professional Scott Brotebeck in getting the golf course marked for the tournament. We were able to double the number of players from last year and hope to double the event again next year” added Everly.
