Panthers dedicate game to four-year old Avery Baszler

BIRCH RUN -- The Birch Run volleyball team beat Essexville-Garber 25-16, 20-25, 25-15, 25-21 Wednesday night at Birch Run High School.

Both teams and most of the crowd wore orange shirts in support of leukemia awareness.

The game was played in honor of four-year old Avery Baszler, daughter of Birch Run principal Mike Baszler and a leukemia survivor.

"It's wonderful.  Unfortunately when people go through things like this, support is the one thing you do have.  We have wonderful people around here in the community," said Principal Baszler.

"Tonight was about just raising awareness and bringing in money to go to a cancer foundation.  Our principal's daughter actually had leukemia and she's now one-hundred percent free.  We just wanted to recognize that and bring awareness," added Birch Run junior center Sammi Louchart, who helped organize the event.

Birch Run improves to 15-23 overall with the victory.
