T'Wolves' defense lacking in 88-72 setback
MIDLAND -- The Northwood University Men's Basketball team dropped an 88-72 contest to Lake Superior State Thursday night (January 14).
The Timberwolves are now 7-6 overall, 4-5 GLIAC. Lake Superior State now stands at 9-5, 7-2 GLIAC.
Northwood got off to a fast start, leading by seven in the opening five minutes of the game. LSSU chipped away at the lead, eventually going up 15-14 with 11:57 remaining in the half. The two teams would go back and fourth until the final five minutes, where LSSU extended their lead to as many as 10 before settling for a 48-39 lead at the break. The Lakers shot 60.6 from the floor (20-33) in the first half and 50.0 percent from 3-point range (6-12).
The Lakers continued their hot shooting in the second half, going 14-25 from the floor (56 percent) and 4-7 from beyond the arc (57.1 percent). LSSU led by at least 10 in the over the final 17:45 of the game.
Lionel Sullivan (Detroit, Mich./DePorres) led the Timberwolves with 28 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season and the 13th of his career. Chris Johnson (Belleville, Mich.) also finished with a double-double, totaling 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Northwood will host rival Saginaw Valley State Saturday afternoon (January 16). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
