Flint Northwestern comes back to beat Flint Northern
FRANKENMUTH -- It may take until Millington's next game before the smile is completely wiped from Kyle Currie's face, and no one would blame him.
Currie, a Cardinal junior guard, drained a game-winning three-pointer with 4.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter to snap a 42-42 deadlock, sending Millington to a dramatic, 45-42 victory at Frankenmuth on Tuesday night. A desperation attempt by the Eagles' Luke Sheppard fell well short at the buzzer, as he fell down before getting a shot away.
Frankenmuth had tied the game just before Currie's heroics when Tim Faris calmly sank a pair of free throws to erase a two-point deficit. But the Cardinals broke through some full-court pressure employed by the Eagles after Faris' makes, enabling Currie to get an open look from the wing as he recorded what proved to be the game-winning points.
Elsewhere, Flint Northwestern made it 2-for-2 against rival Flint Northern this season, earning a 78-68 victory on their home floor. The visiting Vikings started strong, building a 14-7 lead, but the Wildcats crept back throughout the second quarter, and eventually raced out in front en route to the ten-point victory.
