Stephenson pours in 20 points in loss

The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team fell to Ashland University today (Feb. 11), 72-61 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up.

ASHLAND, OH -- The Cardinals were down by four as they headed into the locker room at the end of the first half.  Senior Avery Stephenson (Romulus, Mich.) led the Cardinals with 10 of his 20 points and three rebounds.  Sophomore Sean Romsek (Fowlerville, Mich.) added five points, while sophomore Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind. / T.C. Howe HS) had six points and pulled down three rebounds.

Saginaw Valley fought a hard battle in the second half to keep the game close to the last seconds.  Freshman Brett Beland (Menominee, Mich.) had eight points for the Cardinals and sophomore Josh Eisenga (McBain, Mich.) added seven points and seven rebounds. 

With the loss Saginaw Valley falls to 13-9 overall on the season, and 10-7 in the GLIAC, while Ashland improves to 11-11 overall on the season, and 7-10 in the GLIAC. 

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday (Feb. 13) when they travel to Tiffin.  Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
