Powers survives scare from SWA
BURTON -- The Hamady girls basketball team stormed out to a 9-0 lead over host Bendle and cruised to a 62-42 win Monday night in their Class C district opener.
Hamady takes on Bentley Wednesday night, as the Hawks continue their quest for back-to-back state titles.
At Flint Powers High School, the host Chargers held off upstart Flint Southwestern Academy 57-53.
Knights' guard Dominique Fischer poured in 24 points, but the Chargers relied on clutch free throw shooting to extend their season at least another game.
Flint Powers hosts Mt. Morris Wednesday night.
In Freeland, the host Falcons got 39 combined points from Jennifer and Tori Jankoska and beat up on Shepherd 61-39.
Freeland takes on Chippewa Hills Wednesday night in the district semifinals.
