Nearly 35,000 fans brave chilly conditions at The Big House

ANN ARBOR (AP) -- Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez says the competition at quarterback is wide open.

Denard Robinson did seem to close the gap behind returning starter Tate Forcier at Saturday's public practice, running for a score on his first drive and connecting with Roy Roundtree in stride on a 97-yard pass.

Forcier struggled to move the ball consistently. He started all 12 games last year as the Wolverines started 4-0 and finished 5-7.

Freshman QB Devin Gardner appeared to get rattled by performing in front of about 35,000 fans at the Big House. He turned their cheers into groans after fumbling on his first play and throwing an interception on his next drive.
