MIDLAND -- The FREE football clinic featuring NFL player Chris Wilson is being rescheduled from May 8th to its new date on Saturday, June 5th. The coach for the Washington Redskins called upon Wilson to be at a new team training camp in early May, and when the NFL calls you answer.

Northwood University and United Way of Midland County are excited to still be able to bring NFL player Chris Wilson to our community on June 5th from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. This exciting event will give boys and girls, ages 8 to 13, a chance to learn directly from this NFL standout. Joining Chris will be local Northwood players and a couple surprise local football greats as well.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable athletic clothing such as shorts or sweatpants along with sneakers or cleats. Each child will receive a free water bottle, event T-shirt, pizza and drinks. Working directly with Chris, kids will to build new skills, confidence and many new friendships.

Chris Wilson has strong ties to the Tri-city’s. He was born in Flint, Michigan and grew up on some rough inner-city streets, where he saw his share of violence and poverty. A high school standout, Wilson missed his opportunity to play Big 10 football because of a paperwork mistake in high school. Northwood University, in Midland, saw his potential and offered him a football scholarship. Wilson was named all-conference at Northwood and after graduating, was offered a position with the Canadian Football League. Wilson’s team won the CFL championship and he was soon drafted by Washington as a Defensive End. He now proudly wears the #95 Washington Redskins jersey.

A standout athlete, known for his incredible speed, Chris Wilson is a man who is committed to giving back to the communities who supported him through the years. Chris spends the off-season mentoring young children in the Tri-city area and strives to be a positive role model to young children each and every day. He continues to look for creative opportunities to give back to area kids.

You won’t want to miss this incredible community event. For those who have already registered, please confirm that you still plan to attend on June 5th. Space is limited, so register early. To register, call United Way of Midland County at (989) 631-3670, or email answers@unitedwaymidland.org.
