Panthers win game one, 3-0; Mustangs earn 5-1 victory in game two
MT. MORRIS -- Mt. Morris' regular season home finale ended on a down note, but the powerful Panther squad still has sky-high expectations for the upcoming post-season, after finishing the regular season with 27 victories.
After winning the first game of their non-league doubleheader against Clio by a 3-0 score, the Mustangs came back to earn a 5-1 victory and earn a split of Wednesday's doubleheader.
It's been an up-and-down season for the Mustangs, but head coach Robert Henderson knows the key to any successful run begins with effectiveness on the mound.
"(Makes it) easy for your defense, offense and everything, 'cause now your more relaxed," said Henderson. "You can swing the bat...pitchers are more able to hit the corners and stuff like that, so that's the big key that I'm trying to teach the girls. If you can get the lead, you can relax and have more fuin doing it."
Pitcher Makaha Harmon, who went the distance in Clio's game two victory and yielded only one run, thinks her team is capable of making a deep run in the playoffs.
"Our season's been alright and I hope we do really good," said Harmon. "There's been a lot of ups and downs but we're working through them...we're getting better."
