Eagles undefeated in Flint Metro last season
LINDEN -- A perfect regular season, followed by a sudden departure from the playoffs.
That situation described the Linden football program last season.
The Eagles cruised to a 9-0 record and a Flint Metro title, but then lost in the second round of the post season to Mt. Pleasant High School.
This year, coach Dennis Hopkins is more concerned with improving throughout the season than winning every regualr season game.
"We really don't talk about winning or losing that much. Our biggest focus is on preparing for the games and getting better every week. The wins and losses will take care of themselves. Yeah we want to win the league championships just like everybody else but we want to improve," Hopkins said.
The biggest departure for Linden, the graduation of three-year starting quarterback Cody Marks.
He left Linden as the all-time leader in Flint-area passing yardage.
Marks' replacement is senior Thad Kenney, who waited patiently for his turn in the spotlight.
"I'm just going to play one game at a time this year. We've got a good team this year. We're definitely going to be underestimated. I think everyone's hungry for their spot. We've been working real hard and it should be a good season," says Kenney.
Linden opens the 2010 season on the road versus Swartz Creek.
