COMSTOCK PARK -- Amidst a three-game losing streak, the Loons got exactly what they needed Tuesday night: an offensive explosion.

Every position player in manager Juan Bustabad’s starting nine recorded at least two hits for a total of 21 and Great Lakes salvaged a 13-7 win in its four-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Brian Ruggiano led the way with a four-hit, two-double performance.  Nine-hole hitter Chris Jacobs recorded three RBIs and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Loons struck for two first inning runs – highlighted by three straight extra base hits – and never looked back.  The Loons drove starter Jared Wesson (7-2) out of the game in the third with five runs, highlighted by six straight hits.  They scored three more the next inning off reliever Richard Zumaya.

Ryan Christenson, like Wesson, lasted just 2 2/3 innings but Christenson departed with the lead.  Jordan Roberts (6-4), who entered in relief, threw 4 1/3 innings to receive the scorer’s-decision win.

Wade Gaynor homered and drove in four for WM.

Following a 24-win July, the Loons close out August 15-15.

The Loons return to Dow Diamond Wednesday night to begin the final homestand of 2010 with the first of three against the Lake County Captains.  Game time Wednesday is 7:05pm.  The game features a post-game fireworks Loontacular, powered by Dow Corning.  Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.

Right-hander Matt Magill (7-4, 3.29 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons opposite right-hander Trey Haley (5-10, 5.87).

The Great Lakes Loons are a fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League.  For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
