Both schools raise money for leukemia awareness
BIRCH RUN -- Birch Run's volleyball team won the first two sets then held off a late charge from LakeVille to win in four sets at Birch Run High School Monday night.
The game was part of 'Orange Crush NIght', a student organized event that helped raise awareness and money for the battle against leukemia.
"My cousin died last year of leukemia and he was two years old. I just thought everyone does cancer why not do leukemia because nobody ever hears about it and people are affected with it more than they know. We let up a little bit but we came back and it was an exciting game for us. Its good that we won, especially with senior night and leukemia night altogether," said Birch Run senior setter Samantha Louchart, who helped organize the fundraiser.
A silent auction took place during the game, and orange t-shirt sales brought in more money for leukemia research.
