Milbrath scores for 5 TD's in win
HOUGHTON -- The Northwood University football team dropped a 62-30 contest at Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon (October 23).
Northwood falls to 4-4 overall, 4-3 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech improves to 5-2 overall and in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves got off to a strong start, finding the end zone on their opening drive. O'Neil Thomas (Linden, N.J.) capped the eight-play, 70-yard drive with a four yard touchdown run.
MTU took control at that point, however, scoring 34 straight points in just over 16 minutes of game time. The Timberwolves did score 10 straight points towards the end of the half thanks to a nine-yard touchdown run by Cameron Jackson (Dahlonega, Ga./Lumpkin) and a 30-yard field by Pat Sijan (Novi, Mich.). But the Huskies struck one more time before the break, scoring a TD with 33 seconds remaining in the second quarter to send the game to the break with the Huskies leading 41-17.
Michigan Tech continued their momentum on the first play of the second half, returning the opening kickoff for 93 yards to make the score 48-17. Northwood scored two more touchdowns in the second half – a 45-yard pass from Aaron Shavers (Detroit, Mich./Inkster) to Quillan Mathis (Detroit, Mich./Finney) and a 25-yard TD pass from Josh Sinagoga (Madison Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) to Donny Knoll (Warren, Mich./Woods Tower).
Northwood finished the game with 307 yards of offense, totaling 171 rushing and 136 yards passing.
Phil Milbrath had 250 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns (3 rushing, 2 receiving) for the Huskies.
The Timberwolves will host Hillsdale Saturday (October 30). Kickoff is set for noon.
