Annual salary now $3.49 million for Spartans' leader
EAST LANSING (AP) -- Michigan State has given Tom Izzo a $500,000 annual raise to make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.
Athletic director Mark Hollis says Izzo signed an amendment to his contract last week that increases his annual compensation to $3.49 million. The deal also allows Izzo to use a private plane for up to 25 hours each year for personal use.
Izzo has won a national championship and six Big Ten titles. He has led the Spartans to half of the last 12 Final Fours.
Hollis says he began reviewing Izzo's contract last season, well before the Cleveland Cavaliers tried to bring him to the NBA for $6 million a season. Kentucky's John Calipari makes an average of $4 million a year.
