Timberwolves get past Lake Erie, 82-77
LAKE ERIE -- The Northwood University men's basketball team posted a come-from-behind 82-77 win at Lake Erie Saturday afternoon (December 18).
Northwood is now 4-8 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie Falls to 2-5 overall 0-3 in the GLIAC.
The first half was all Storm, as Lake Erie led by as many as 20 (40-20). The Timberwolves chipped away at the lead down the stretch, trailing 42-27 at the break. Lake Erie finished the half shooting 51.5 percent from the floor (17-33), compared to 36.4 percent for Northwood (8-22).
Lake Erie led by 16 early in the second half when Northwood began to turn things around. The Timberwolves went on a 21-6 run over a five minute stretch to take the lead. The game was tied at 75 when NU put the game away, scoring seven of the final nine points to earn the win.
The free throw line proved to be the key for Northwood, as the Timberwolves connected on 27 of their 28 attempts (96.4 percent).
Bobby Lewis (Saginaw, Mich./Mott CC) led all scorers with 22 points. He also added 11 rebounds for his second NU double-double. Four other Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by Booker Stoudmire (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) with 14.
Northwood is now off for the holiday. NU returns to action Jan. 2 at Northwood (FL). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
