Storm earn 7-3 victory on home ice
GUELPH, ON -- The Saginaw Spirit suffered a 7-3 loss to the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre of Guelph Saturday afternoon. John McFarland posted two goals in the effort, taking his season total to ten. Peter Hermenegildo accounted for the other Spirit goal in Saturday’s action. The Spirit still lead the OHL Western Conference with 52 points and a 24-8-3-1 record despite the loss.
The two teams traded goals to open the first period, with Guelph’s Michael Latta scoring a power play goal at 3:34 and Spirit blueliner Peter Hermenegildo scoring moments later with an unassisted goal at 6:57. The Storm would jump out to 6-1 lead however, powered by two more goals in the first period from Latta and center Peter Holland and three goals in the second period from winger Cody McNaughton, Holland and winger Scott Kosmachuk.
The Spirit would reduce the deficit in the third period with center John McFarland scoring two power play goals. The first came at 2:35 from defenseman Ben Chiarot and goalie Mavric Parks and the second came at 14:15 in the frame from defenseman Ryan O’Connor and Chiarot. Despite the effort, the Storm would secure the win with a later third period goal from winger Francis Menard taking the score to 7-3.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks tallied 37 saves on 44 shots while Storm netminder Brandon Foote posted 32 saves on 35 shots.
