McCune, Jackson lead way in 80-58 win over cross-town rivals
UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Last season's three-game sweep at the hands of rival Arthur Hill did not sit well with Saginaw. Wednesday night, the Trojans took out their anger.
Leading by eight at the break, the Trojans eventually wore down an exhausted Lumberjack team with a relentless full-court press, and breezed to an 80-58 victory. The game was still fairly close after three quarters, with The High up by nine, but a 19-6 fourth quarter slammed the door on any hopes of an Arthur Hill comeback.
Kevin Marshall came off the bench to lead the Trojans with 17 points, while Tommie McCune added 15 points and 20 rebounds. Altogether, four Trojans scored in double-figures.
Arthur Hill's Jordan Hare was just two blocked shots shy of a triple-double, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight rejections.
Wednesday's contest did not count as a league game. The two schools will meet again on Saturday, January 22nd, also at SVSU - a game which will count in the SVL standings.
