John Shoemaker officially welcomed to Midland
MIDLAND -- Great Lakes Loons general manager Paul Barbeau officially introduced new manager John Shoemaker to fans and media gathered at Dow Diamond.
"I've heard a lot of great things from our players who have played here the last four years, some of our staff. Now getting a chance to meet Paul and everybody in the office and to see the facility I can see why everybody's been excited that has played here," Shoemaker said.
Shoemaker was in charge of the Dodgers training facility in Glendale, Arizona from 2008-2009 and has been with the Dodgers organization as a player/coach since 1977.
"This is going to be my 19th season coming up as a manager. We were fortunate enough to win a couple of championships in Jacksonville in Double A in 2001 and in 2005 and also in '96 we had a club that won in Savannah in the south atlantic league," Shoemaker added.
The Loons open the 2011 season on April 7th against Lake County at Dow Diamond.
