Timberwolves fall, 85-82
MARQUETTE -- The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 85-82 contest at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon (January 29).
Northwood is now 7-13 overall, 5-7 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan improves to 7-12 overall, 2-10 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves led the majority of the first half, going up by as many as seven. NU eventually settled for a 35-31 lead at the break. Northwood went 9-10 from the foul line in the opening 20 minutes.
Northwood kept their lead for the opening 10 minutes of the half as well, but the Wildcats rallied. A 9-2 run by NMU gave the Wildcats a 73-66 lead with 3:54 remaining. Northwood trailed by eight with two minutes remaining, but made consecutive triples to make it a two point game at 79-77. The Timberwolves were unable to get the needed stops down the stretch, giving the Wildcats the win.
Bobby Lewis (Saginaw, Mich./Mott CC) led the way for Northwood, scoring 19 points. Cameron Joyce (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent St. Mary's) finished with 17 points, nine assists and zero turnovers. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) came off the bench to finish with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Nrothwood will host Urbana in a non-conference contest Thursday night (February 3). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
