Bridgeport bounces back with blowout win over North Branch
BUENA VISTA -- One is a sophomore, the other is a junior, and senior experience may be the only thing lacking from the games of Denzel Watts and Anton Wilson.
The Carman-Ainsworth star tandem combined for well over half of their team's points in a 72-59 triumph at Buena Vista on Tuesday night. The sophomore, Watts, led the way with 32 points, while the junior, Wilson, added a dozen. They helped the Cavaliers build a 39-28 lead at the half, and were never seriously threatened in the second half beyond one brief stretch where the Knights cut the deficit to seven. Carman-Ainsworth hopes to ride that momentum to a win over Big Nine nemesis Flint Powers on Friday night, when they host the first-place Chargers.
Elsewhere, Bridgeport bounced back from a tough, four-point loss last Friday night at Birch Run by overwhelming visiting North Branch, 75-55. After the Broncos scored the first four points of the game, Bridgeport head coach Jason Kowalski called time-out, and his troops responded. After the Bearcats came back to take the lead in the opening quarter, they never looked back.
