Chips fall short by 61-55 final

LEWISTON, NY (AP) -- Anthony Nelson scored 13 points and had seven assists, including one to tie the school record, in Niagara's 61-55 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.

Nelson got his 630th assist on a pass to set up Kevin Moore's dunk with 1:13 left, tying Alvin Cruz' record from 2005.

The milestone capped a second half in which the Purple Eagles (8-21) outscored the Chippewas 38-32.

Niagara trailed 38-29 with 13:11 left in the game, before going on an 18-2 run. Nelson's free throws capped the spurt and put the Purple Eagles ahead 47-40 with 6:33 to play.

Niagara was 10 of 19 from the field in the second half, finishing shooting 44.7 percent for the game (17 of 38).  Marvin Jordan had 14 points and Kashief Edwards 11 for the Purple Eagles.

Jalin Thomas paced the Chippewas (8-18) with 23 points. Derek Jackson added 10 for Central Michigan, which fell to 0-3 against

Niagara.
