Timberwolves downed by Michigan Tech, 88-77
MIDLAND -- The Northwood University men's basketball team saw their 2010-11 season come to an end with an 88-77 loss to Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon (February 26).
Northwood finished the season 10-18 overall, 7-12 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech heads to the GLIAC tournament at 16-10 overall, 11-8 in the GLIAC.
Michigan Tech took the early lead scored the first five points of the game and did not trail the rest of the first half, going up 43-35 at the break. The Timberwolves shot 43.3 percent from the floor (13-30) while Tech finished at 54.3 percent (19-35).
Northwood came out strong in the second half, eventually taking a 46-45 lead early on. MTU responded right away, going on a 12-3 run to go up 57-49. Northwood got no closer than four the rest of the way.
Michigan Tech's shooting proved to be the difference in the game, as the Huskies finished at 53.5 percent from the floor (38-71) and 43.5 percent from 3-point range (10-23). Northwood finished at 46.0 percent (29-63).
Four Timberwolves finished the game in double-digits. Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich. /Roosevelt) lead the way with 15. Bobby Gibson (Harper Woods, Mich. /Harper Woods) and Bobby Lewis (Saginaw, Mich./Mott CC) both finished with 13, while Matt Wittbrodt (Flint, Mich./Ohlone CCC) added 11.
Northwood will lose just one senior (Wittbrodt) who was active at the end of the year for the 2011-12 season.
