Bridgeport rallies in fourth quarter to beat rival Frankenmuth
SAGINAW -- After a converting a four-point play to give themselves an 18-5 lead over Saginaw, it appeared as if Carman-Ainsworth was finally ready to usher themselves amongst the state's elite Class A programs.
But the team which already owns such a designation prevented that from happening.
In a Class A district semi-final on Wednesday, Saginaw dug themselves out of that deep, early hole and went on to prevail over the Cavaliers, 56-54. The teams played a back-and-forth second half, but the final buzzer saw the Trojans emerge victorious in one of their toughest tests all season. Next up for The High is Saginaw Valley League rival Flint Northern on Friday night for the district title, who defeated Arthur Hill earlier in the evening.
Much like Carman-Ainsworth, Frankenmuth saw their season come to a heartbreaking end at the hands of TVC East rival Bridgeport. The Eagles took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter, only to watch things fall apart, as the Bearcats came from behind for the 65-60 victory in a game at Carrollton High School. Next up for the Bearcats are the Bobcats of Bay City John Glenn, who got past host Carrollton in the other semi-final.
Elsewhere in Class B, LakeVille raced out to an 18-point, second-quarter lead and never looked back, easily disposing of Birch Run by a 65-48 final. The Falcons now face the monumental task of trying to upset Flint Powers on the Chargers' home floor in Friday night, in the district title game.
