Rousse takes over head coaching duties
UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Saginaw Valley State University has fired embattled softball coach Everett Roper.
Statement from SVSU Athletic Department: "Saginaw Valley State University softball coach Everett Roper has been relieved of his duties and is no longer employed by SVSU, effective immediately. We are deeply disappointed by incidents of unacceptable financial misconduct by Mr. Roper. Assistant coach Tim Rousse will assume the duties of head softball coach on an interim basis."
When reached for comment Friday afternoon, SVSU spokesperson J. J. Boehm said Roper's "unacceptable financial misconduct" involved the misuse of school/team funds.
Rousse will serve as interim head coach through the end of the season.
SVSU's athletic department will conduct a nationwide search for Roper's replacement after the season is over.
The Cardinals are 17-8 overall, 4-2 in GLIAC play.
They travel to Hillsdale this weekend for a pair of conference doubleheaders.
Roper was suspended for 30 days without pay in February of 2010, after pleading guilty to impaired driving and pleading no contest to marijuana possession.
