Former CMU stars return to Mt. Pleasant for spring game
MT. PLEASANT -- Dan LeFevour and Frank Zombo were two key catalysts behind arguably the most successful era in Central Michigan football, leading the Chippewas to three Mid-American Conference titles in four seasons, including a 12-2 campaign and Top 25 ranking in 2009.
LeFevour, Zombo and a number of former players returned to Mt. Pleasant Friday for the CMU spring game.
NBC25"Its such a day-to-day grind when you're in it, but when its over its over, so enjoy it," said LeFevour, when asked what he was going to say to the current Chippewa players.
LeFevour is preparing for his second season in the National Football League, pending the outcome of the league's current labor strike, as a quarterback with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Zombo went from undrafted rookie free agent to Super Bowl XLV starter in the span of nine months.
The Green Bay Packers linebacker, who played defensive end while at CMU, had five tackles and a sack in the Packers' title game win.
"Just to see all the players from not only our team but the Mid-American Conference contributing to their teams and playing in the Super Bowl, guys like James Harrison, Ben Roethlisberger, Greg Jennings, its was quite an honor," said Zombo.
