Raiders fall short of tournament three-peat
FLINT -- Lapeer East rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat Flushing 14-12 Monday night in the Division One title game of the Tom Cole Greater Flint Baseball Tournament at Broome Park.
Flushing knocked Eagles pitcher Zeke Stone out of the game in the 4th inning, and the Raiders looked well on their way to a third-straight crown.
However, Lapeer East caught fire at the plate, outscoring Flushing 13-6 the rest of the way.
The Raiders were trying to join Clio (1988-90) and LakeVille (2002-04) as the only schools to win the tournament three years in a row.
Instead, Lapeer East wins it for the first time in the 42-year history of the tournament.
The tournament was not held last year because of budget issues.
Montrose beat Genesee 18-0 in the Division Two title game, giving the Rams back-to-back tournament crowns.
