CBS Sports Network will broadcast home tilt vs. Ashland on October 20th
UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Despite a disappointing 2010 season, the direction of SVSU football is still a positive one, and Wednesday's announcement could certainly provide long-term benefits for the program.
For the first time in school history, the Cardinals will be seen on national television, courtesty of the CBS Sports Network. SVSU will host GLIAC rival Ashland on Thursday, October 20th at 8 p.m. for the landmark event.
The ongoing renovation of Wickes Stadium helped make this possible, as a new playing surface and light fixtures are being added in time for the 2011 season.
Coaches and athletic officials alike could hardly contain their excitement after Wednesday's announcement.
"It's gonna be great," said SVSU head coach Jim Collins. "For our guys to be able to play in front of the cameras, that's not an opportunity you get every day, and that's something you have to work hard to earn. It'll be nice for some of our players that aren't local...their relatives in other states will be able to see them. That will be real good and then the benefits from the recruiting standpoint."
"It gives us, as an institution, the great opportunity to expose what we're all about, what we really have here," added SVSU Athletic Director Mike Watson. "I mean, there are people probably in a 15-mile radius of this campus that don't know what's here, and it's a gem. And when they actually have an opportunity to see what's here, I think people are going to be incredibly surprised."
