Track's infield is an everlasting party

BROOKLYN -- NBC25 ventured to Michigan International Speedway on Friday as Sprint Cup teams prepared for the Helluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 on Sunday.

However, many of the best stories came from the track's infield as campers gather for another wild race weekend.

Bridgeport's Craig Reda has been driving the same converted school bus to the track since 1995.

He has more than 200 autographs on the ceiling of the bus and enough stories to fill a book.

"The president of the track tried to give us a pace car ride," Reda said. "So he came out about 10 p.m. and took about six people out on the track in his suburban. And we're out there doing about 100 miles an hour around the track."

Nicole Whitson of Yale also makes it a point never to miss a race at MIS.

"All the nice people we meet down here, good times we have with our friends, just the party scene," Whitson said. "We do watch the race."

Ben Caroli and his friends drove all the way from Evanston, Illinois.

Caroli was dealing with a little bit of culture shock when we caught up with him.

"It's been just a different breed of people, I've never really experienced that living in Chicago," Caroli said. "It's pretty nice, it's an interesting transition, I'd say."

Most campers will leave after the race on Sunday, but a few will stick around until Monday.
