Under-11 and Junior Tournaments being held at Zaul Park
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP -- The dream of a Little League World Championship begins this week for tons of young baseball players in Mid-Michigan.
Rudy Zaul Park, in Saginaw Township, is preparing to host two All-Star tournaments.
The Junior World Series District 14 Tournament gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, and runs for a full week.
Zaul Park is also home to the Under-11 World Series District Tournament.
"Constant communication, we have forms that need to be filled out and signed, deadlines we have to meet every year. Applications need to be filled out, background checks run, its very time consuming. It takes an average of two to three hours per player just to be totally ready to go," says Saginaw Township South Little League President Brandon Rose, who credits all of the volunteers who got the fields and facilities ready to host the all-star teams.
"I have a feeling our team is going to do a very good job in the tournament coming up. Even if we don't win, I'm still proud of our team for how far we've come," says 11-year old Marshawn Evans, who made the under-12 team, despite being just 11 years old.
Evans and his under-12 teammates travel to Bay City Northwest Little League on Wednesday to open tournament player versus Bay City Southwest.
