Coach Schmugge believes team has strong leadership
SAGINAW -- Ever since a tough loss in the playoffs last season, Michigan Lutheran Seminary has been eagerly anticipating the upcoming 2011 football season.
The Cardinals 2010 campaign ended with a loss to Bay City All Saints, but not before a 6-3 record saw them make the postseason for the first time since 1998.
Now that they've had a taste of that, they're looking for more.
Coming out of the TVC West, a conference that is home for last season's state champions, Ithaca, it will be no easy task.
Especially after losing key pieces of their team, including quarterback Joe Wall and the team's leading rusher Abe Van Sice.
But despite this, coach Karl Schmugge believes that his team will be prepared.
"We had a great season last year, the seniors were great leaders for us," Schmugge said. "We lost a lot of good senior leadership last year, so the guys this year have a big challenge in front of them."
MLS has high expectations for building on last year.
"I'm definitely hoping to make the playoffs once again," said senior quarterback Chance Hayes. "I'm hoping to have even more wins and more success this year."
But MLS has their eyes on something else they haven't had in quite some time - a state championship.
"We're looking for the ultimate goal, going to state and winning a championship," Hayes said. "Hopefully we can get there."
