Coach Will Luzar has team focused only on what's in front of them
SAGINAW -- A 3-6 season doesn't mean much to new Arthur Hill football coach Will Luzar.
According to Coach Lu, as his team calls him, the Lumberjacks are ready for what's next.
Arthur Hill, who won a state championship in 1991, has been far from championship caliber in recent years, including a winless 2009 season.
Playing in a tough Saginaw Valley conference, the team has been met with stiff competition every year, but with a new system in place, Arthur Hill may be primed to take a step forward.
"The main thing we're working on is one game at a time," Luzar said. "We haven't talked about game two yet. We're just focused on (our first game) right now and trying to improve our program."
With this being his first season with Arthur Hill, Luzar knows his team has some challenges ahead.
"It's a whole new program for the kids and we're starting fresh," Luzar said.
But the team seems to be responding well, says senior quarterback Michael Copes.
"They're doing a great job," Copes said.
In addition, Copes is looking for a successful season for a struggling program.
"Hopefully, we have a great season. The team's been working hard (so far), and we should have a good season," Copes said.
