'One game at a time' for the Timberwolves

MIDLAND -- With a new season comes a new attitude for the Northwood Timberwolves football team.

After finishing with a 5-6 record in 2010, the Northwood Timberwolves are taking a new approach to the 2011 season.

“We plan on improving by just coming out and taking it one game at a time,” said Aaron Shavers, Timberwolves quarterback.  “Don’t think ahead—just keep fighting and fight until the end.”

The Junior quarterback led the T-Wolves in rushing, passing and scoring last season with over 2000 yards of offense and ten touchdowns. However, they finished tied for third place in the GLIAC North.

“We’ve definitely forgotten about the past,” said Justin Barnes, Midland native and Timberwolves defensive tackle. “It doesn’t matter anymore, it’s all about this season right here. Definitely, in the beginning, we’re gonna start right off and work hard.”

Barnes will help lead the defense while Shavers continues to lead the offense and the entire team.

“The thing that I’ve been most impressed with watching Aaron is his leadership ability and having the team surround him and as well as he surrounds the team,” said Northwoods head coach Mike Sullivan.

“I bring each and everybody together as a team,” said Shavers. “Offense, defense, special teams as one. I try to lead my team to victory each week.”

Shavers and the rest of the team have only one date circled on their calendar this season—at least for the time being.

“I’m looking to beat Findlay right here on September 3rd.”

“We’re gonna start right form the beginning and knock the teams right to their heels,” Barnes said.
