Hornets have to hurdle last obstacle before Ford Field
NEW LOTHROP -- After injuries to lineman Jon Toma and running back Amari Coleman during the final stretch of the season, the New Lothrop Hornets (12-0) had their reasons to do away with their undefeated season.
But through perseverance and a year-long dedication to their motto ‘next man up,’ they have earned themselves a match-up with Mendon (12-0) to determine who will head to Ford Field next week.
“Injuries are gonna happen,” said Clint Galvas, New Lothrop head coach. “The next man’s gotta be ready to go and people have stepped in and filled those shoes.”
Through the playoffs, New Lothrop has continued its domination, winning by an average score of 32-5.
The team knows that this week’s win may not come as easily as the others.
“We’re focused on the task at hand,” said junior quarterback Austin Newman. “It’s just another game but it’s a big game too.”
New Lothrop and Mendon will play the Division 8 semifinal tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Howell High School.
