MIDLAND -- The Northwood University men’s basketball team earned a 77-64 win over Ashland Monday night (December 19).
Northwood is now 6-5 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Ashland falls to 4-6 overall, 1-4 in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves came out hot at the opening of the game, going up 17-4 in the opening six minutes. The Eagles got no closer than nine for the half, allowing Northwood to take a 41-26 lead to the locker room. NU shot 51.6 percent from the floor (28-57) while holding Ashland to 37.0 percent (10-27).
Northwood extended its lead to 61-40 with 13:08 remaining when the Eagles fought their way back into the game. AU cut the lead down to 68-60 with 3:10 remaining, but Northwood netted nine of the final 13 points of the game to earn the win.
For the game, Northwood shot 49.1 percent from the floor (28-57) while Ashland finished at 40.7 percent (24-59). NU out-rebounded the Eagles 42-33 overall.
The Timberwolves were led by Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper), who registered Northwood’s first double-double of the season. He matched his career-high with 20 points while grabbing a personal-best 10 rebounds. Bobby Lewis (Saginaw, Mich.) added 19 points.
Northwood will now be off for the holiday break. They will return to action January 5 against Grace Bible.
