MT. PLEASANT -- CMU's Trey Ziegler has committed to the University of Pittsburgh.

The basketball star tweeted the news late Saturday afternoon: "Just committed to the University of Pittsburgh! #hail2pitt"

His dad Ernie Ziegler was fired as head basketball coach of CMU at the end of the season after coaching there for six years.

Since then, Trey has been looking elsewhere including UCLA and Duke.

Ernie used to coach at Pitt with Jamie Dixon when the two were assistants under Ben Howland.

The elder Ziegler confirmed the news to ESPN Saturday that his son was transferring.

Trey Ziegler averaged nearly 16 points per game in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
