KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP -- Citing family concerns, SVSU Men's Basketball Coach Frankie Smith resigned from his position earlier today.

Smith has an aging father and suufered a loss lass fall when his father-in-law passed away.

Both he and his wife are from West Virginia and he expressed a desire to move closer to his family.

SVSU Spokesman J.J. Boehm said Smith's reasons were 100 percent family related. He said Smith's ability to recruit players in the area is one of the things the university will miss.

"We have players from Arthur Hill, Bay City Western and Flint Powers all on the roster so he did a very good job of reaching out to basketball in the Great Lakes Bay Region," Boehm said. "Most of those kids will continue to play for SVSU this season."

The search for Smith's replacement is underway.
