AUBURN -- No. 1 Midland High defeated third ranked Bay City Western 6-3 in the first round of district play. The two teams met earlier this year, with Bay City coming up victorious and earning a share of the Saginaw Valley League title.

With the game tied at one in the second, the Chemics Alex Goodwin drove in a run, giving Midland a two-run lead.

In the bottom of the second, Bay City’s Garret Pashak advanced to third after tagging up on Briton Ott’s flyout to center. Pashak later scored on a wild pitch to make ti 2-1 Midland.

The Warriors led by one after four, but couldn’t answer Midland’s consecutive two-run innings, eventually losing 6-3.

The Chemics will advance to play Bay City Central this Saturday.
